I was speechless and so honored when I received an award at the Visual Arts Center in Punta Gorda for my watercolor painting called "Leaves by the Stream" presented to me at their Awards Reception on October 15th. This work depicts two life-size big leaf maple leaves situated on the ground at the edge of a stream. It was fun to paint and I have been amazed at how well my work was received. It was even used in their advertising for this show at the gallery. I'm glad I had the courage to submit my work.
The Visual Arts Center is a marvelous place to explore many types of artwork expression. They have a multitude of various medium classes. This gives me a wide spectrum of opportunities to enjoy in the pursuit of creativity. Another recent class I attended was for enamel jewelry creations. Its theme was Halloween jewelry and I had the fun of making two necklaces-one in white called "ghost cat" and another in black for a "scary cat". Each has a glass "jewel" in orange as an embellishment. I've never worked with enamel applied to a copper metal base. The hardest part is working with the baking process in a hot kiln at 1,300 to 1,400 degrees, but we had a great teacher who guided us through the entire process. It was a fun activity and I love my results.
I also hope to sell cards, perhaps some jewelry and pottery works, and maybe even selected gilcées of my watercolor works in their gift shop. (A gilcée is a copy of an artwork made using photography and then the image is printed with archival ink on a cotton based paper for a high quality reproduction of artwork.)
