Just south of where we live, the Peace River flows from east to west into Charlotte Harbor and subsequently into the Gulf of America. On the south side of the river, the Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens were created by Roger and Linda Tetrault on 27 acres that extend from a parking lot through the acreage to the edge of the river. There you can walk out on a boardwalk over the water to a gazebo with benches and view the waterfront and shoreline.
Within the gardens there are sculptures, plants and trees, a gift shop surrounded by a mote, a butterfly house, flowers and fountains, all situated along the winding walking paths to intrigue visitors. According to their brochure, over 50 varieties of birds can be spied from time to time along the way.
The above sculpture made of lava rock represents the hull of a ship.
Metal rods encourage bougenvilla to grow upward into a tree-like shape, and attract a mockingbird to enjoy this lofty view.
The above life size sculptures appear so life-like it is hard to realize they are not real people!
Whether whimsical or life-like sculpture or beautiful plantings, the visit to this place is a photographer's paradise. The gift shop below also proved to be a lovely pause in our Sunday morning walk.
